ICUBEFARM Jobseeker Series – A Pan-African Virtual Job Seeker Series

The ICUBEFARM Jobseeker Series was organized by ICUBEFARM from 23 to 27 May 2022 and aimed at providing young job seekers: students and recent graduates in Africa, with essential knowledge on the demands of the labour market as well as addressing the challenges that they are facing and providing career orientation and guidance.
The Jobseeker Series was held in English and French and featured daily presentations and discussions by industry experts/leaders on current labour market options: The panel discussions explored relevant issues that resulted in the sharing of good quality information that will help to orientate participants to secure stable employment.
Job seeker participation in this event was free and in addition to gaining valuable insights, they also had the opportunity to; apply for job vacancies online through the ICUBEFARM job portal (www.icubefarm.com); exchange with industry experts and learn how to present themselves professionally and familiarize themselves with professional interactions.
The series launched on Monday 23rd May with an insightful keynote speech from Ms. Monique Akanbi, who is the Field Services Director at the Society for Human Resource Management. During her keynote address at the opening ceremony, Monique’s succinct message focused on the importance of properly managing our human potential. Her message featured valuable information providing an overview of skills gap shortages and areas for upskilling and then she rounded off with key tips for job seekers.
Following this, our Speaker on Day 1, Ms. Gugu Khazi, who is Director of Talent Advisory at Talent Intel, Coach and Facilitator, and author of Passion to Careers, discussed the topics “the Difference between a job and a career” and “Can a hobby turn into a career”. Ms. Khazi’s dynamic message encouraged job seekers to connect with their passion and to combine this with their career goals, which will eventually their careers into hobbies.
Day 2 of the ICUBEFARM Jobseeker Series featured a strong panel session that was hosted by the Federation of Uganda Employers. Mr. Milton Owor, governing council member of the Federation of Uganda Employers and Ms. Golda Oboma, Human capital, organizational development & management advisory consultant at the Federation of Uganda Employers discussed how to write a professional CV, Cover letter and effective interview preparation and performance. These leaders provided up to date knowledge on how to prepare and present oneself professionally in 2022 and what employers seek in their prospective employees.
On Day 3, Ms Vumile Msweli, Founder and CEO of Hesed Consulting, delivered a passionate and knowledgeable presentation on Cracking the Culture Code. Ms. Msweli discussed her rich experience working in various organizations thus providing knowledge on the various organizational cultures that employees experience. Job seekers received interesting insights into the organizational cultures of several global organizations. Ms. Msweli also highlighted the importance of immersing oneself into one’s company’s culture, while adding value.
On day 4, Mr. Elias Ovono Edjo, Director of the National Institute of Public Administration in Equatorial Guinea enlightened us with his knowledgeable experience as a leader by discussing In-demand and transferable skills. Mr. Elias Ovono Edjo encouraged job seekers to nurture and capitalize on their various skills and competencies – education, soft skills, technical skills, etc. that will add value to their organisations.
The final day of the ICUBEFARM Jobseeker Series rounded off with the Federation of Enterprises of Congo hosting a riveting panel discussion. Mr. Djo Moupondo, Managing Director at Sodeico Holding and Ms. Christelle Kabuka, Consultant in human resources at The Job Factory, engaged job seekers with the topic “Jobs of the Future”. The panelists shared beneficial information to job seekers across the continent on current job market trends and employment opportunities
