Dr. Maureen Tong
Dr Maureen Tong is a lawyer, an executive coach, trainer, facilitator and published author. She holds a PhD in international law from the Université de Strasbourg in France. She published academics books on topics such as the right of indigenous peoples to political self-determination, restitution of land rights, land reform, women’s access to land etc. She recently published a book on self-care titled ‘Pour into Your Soul: Let Your Cup Overflow.’
Dr Tong is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) of the International Coach Federation (ICF). In 2017 she attained international certification from an Approved Coach Training Programme (ACTP) of the ICF. This allows her to train executive coaches and coach anyone in any part of the world. She is the former Deputy Company Secretary of Coaches and Mentors of South Africa (COMENSA). She is a member of ICF and COMENSA. She is the CEO of CoachCompanion South Africa.
Dr Tong is the President of the Pretoria Chapter of the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa (PSASA). She speaks on topics such as self-discovery; self-mastery and self-leadership. She lectures Leadership; Emotional, Social and Cultural Intelligence; Talent Management; Diversity & Inclusion; as well as Change Management at Wits Business School (WBS). She has coached and trained government officials and executives from a number of companies such as AkzoNobel; IKEA, Daimler Chrysler; Mercedes Benz South Africa; Giesecke and Devrient; JCDecaux; Eskom Pension and Provident Fund; Rohlig – Grindrod; Rand Water; etc.
In Botswana she has trained and provided management consultancy services to Hollard Life; Boitekanelo Group; Boitekanelo College; Limkokwing University; Progressive Institute; and Rea Vaya Travel and Tours. Dr Tong established the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute (TMALI) and was Project Manager for the Thabo Mbeki Presidential Library (TMPL). She was Deputy Director of the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria.
She serves on the Council of the University of KwaZulu-Natal from August 2020 to July 2024. Dr Tong was the first COO at the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform; was Chief of Staff at the Ministry for Agriculture and Land Affairs; and was Operations Manager at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She worked as Project Officer for Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Namibia at thew African Management Services Company (AMSCO) a Project of the African Development Bank; the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She served as the Special Advisor to the Presidential Advisory Panel on Land Reform and Agriculture in South Africa from December 2019 – May 2020.
